Our work

We have contracted with Leather's & Associates to direct us in building the playground. Their assistance has been used in providing organization framework, direction, fund-raising ideas and how to build community support. From there we received our 501c3 certification, Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws, and an agreement with the Town of Grant.

We conducted a name the playground contest where we received 250 different names and after carefully narrowing them down, the committee voted on KIDTOPIA. This name was submitted by Wyatt Sutphin and it is a super name. The more you say the more excited you become because KIDTOPIA will be Grant's Perfect Place to Play.

We held a Design Day, where the architect from Leather's came and interviewed the children at DAR in the morning and then came up with a rough sketch based on their ideas that afternoon. This sketch and the explanation of the different components was given at a Community Design Night held at Becker Hall with almost 200 people in attendance.

We began raising money with face painting at ball games, a Christmas Tour of Homes, a Pancake Breakfast, and Dominos Pizza Cards. We held a 5k run in April of 2007 and will host another one on September 29, 2007.

We have begun our sale of playground components, stones, pickets, and hand tiles. We have also applied for Grant money and private funding through corporations and philanthropic organizations.

Phase 1 construction will begin on October 1-6, 2007 and will build the two pavilions that will flank the playground. Phase 2 will be in April of 2008.
